NYC Roommates

As a team of Master’s students at NYU, including Cynthia Liang, Tiffany Wang, Xinhui Xu, and myself, we tackled the challenge of simplifying the roommate search process in a bustling city like New York. Together, we designed a user-friendly platform inspired by a Facebook Marketplace-style feature, aimed at connecting users with compatible roommates. Through a collaborative and iterative design process—from initial sketches to refined prototypes—we prioritized user needs, emphasizing compatibility, safety, and simplicity. The result? A practical, intuitive solution that empowers users to build connections and find the perfect roommate match in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

We conducted user research to transform initial ideas into actionable designs, moving from rough sketches to iterative testing and heuristic evaluations. This process ensured a user-centered, polished solution that delivers both functionality and impact.
